Hi All!

Below is your weekly dose of a list of things I’m reading, watching, listening to, or thinking about from my No. 207 Dec 8 2023 newsletter. If this message was forwarded to you, sign up for this newsletter using this link.

Article I Read

How to Do Great Work is a long-form article I’ve read several times since it was published in July 2023. Graham argues there are four steps to do great work: choose a field, learn enough to get to the frontier, notice gaps, and explore promising ones. This is how practically everyone who’s done great work has done it, from painters to physicists. There’s so much to learn from timeless blog posts like this one.

New Podcast I Listened To

Charlie Munger (the NEW Poor Charlie’s Almanack) dives into the book Poor Charlie’s Almanack: The Essential Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger. Munger, who recently passed away, is considered one of the best investors of all time along with his long-time business partner Warren Buffett. What I love most about Munger is his humor. His one-liners whether in book form or interviews can’t be beat.

Blog Post I Wrote

Heat Rate of Power Plants: A Guide to Power Plant Efficiency walks you through how efficiently a power plant transforms its input thermal energy into electrical energy aka heat rate. This was a fun blog post to write because I realized how little I knew about heat rate before writing this post. Heat rate is a great way for power plant owners to decide which plants are more economic than others.

Quote I’m Re-Reading

Relentlessly prune bullshit, don’t wait to do things that matter, and savor the time you have. That’s what you do when life is short. – Paul Graham

Music I’m Listening To

I love how Spotify publishes the top songs you listen to every year. It’s a great way to re-explore music and artists you may have forgotten. While most people reading this will likely not be interested, here are my top songs from 2023.
