British Airways partners with Amex, Capital One, Chase, and Marriott. This means that the credit card points that you earn can be transferred directly to British Airways to book award flights. Amex, Capital One, and Chase points/miles transfer instantly at a 1:1 ratio. Marriott points transfer at a 3:1 ratio in 3 days.
The Amex Gold, Capital One Venture, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Citi Premier, and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant are some of my favorite cards. You earn 4x points at restaurants and supermarkets with the Amex Gold Card. Capital One Venture cardmembers earn 2x miles on every purchase. - Cathay Pacific Asia Miles – 61,000-75,000
- Qantas: 75,000-90,000 points
American Airlines requires the least number of miles for these routes. However, American passes on fuel surcharges, which are expensive when flying British Airways. So, using Cathay Pacific Asia miles from the US to Europe offers the best combination of a reasonable number of miles plus $200. When flying from Europe to the US, Cathay Pacific charges high taxes and fees to join the rest of these options. So, it likely still makes sense to use Cathay Pacific for the return flight but note that you’ll need to pay $500+ in taxes and fees.
