Chase continues to make splashes with its travel credit cards on what seems like a weekly basis. In this round of new Chase Sapphire benefits, cardmembers will see updates to both the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve. These are cards are the mid-tier and premium end of Chase’s portfolio. Both cards are Chase Ultimate Rewards points that can be used to book Chase Sapphire travel.

What’s interesting about these new Chase Sapphire benefits is the bank’s emphasis on the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Clearly, Chase is pushing new and existing cardmember towards this card. If you’re a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmember, product changing to the Chase Sapphire Preferred is starting to make more and more sense. But before making any moves, let’s see what the changes are and why you would consider one card over the other.

Best Chase Credit Cards

The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve are two of my favorite Chase cards. In addition, Chase Freedom Unlimited and Chase Freedom Flex have treated me well. On the business side, the Chase Ink Business Preferred, Chase Ink Business Unlimited, and Chase Ink Business Cash make it extremely easy to earn Chase Sapphire rewards points.

What I appreciate about the Chase card ecosystem is the ability to convert cash back into Chase Ultimate Rewards points. If you hold the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or Chase Ink Business Preferred, cash back earned be converted into Chase points and then redeemed for award travel. This feature makes it attractive to put your spending on Chase cards.
