Music of the Week
Joseph Nathan “King” Oliver was an American jazz player who pioneered the use of mutes in his music. Oliver was a mentor and teacher to music greats like Louis Armstrong. Born near Donaldsonville, Louisiana, Oliver moved to New Orleans, learning to play the trombone, followed by the cornet. He also spent time in Chicago honing his craft. His Back O’Town album is worth a listen.

Book of the Week
Meditations: The Annotated Edition by Marcus Aurelius is Robin Waterfield’s translation of Meditations, one of my favorite sources of ancient wisdom. Meditations is Aurelius’ thoughts from his notebooks on how he thought about the world. One of the best aspects of The Annotated Edition is that it provides readers when another way to interpret Aurelius’ timeless private thoughts. The Gregory Hays translation of Meditations is my favorite translation. However, the Annotated Edition opened up my mind to other aspects of how the most powerful leader in the world at the time thought. Podcasts of the Week
I have been on the verge of work burnout for most of the past month. Luckily, a friend of mine has been an incredible resource. He experienced much of the same type of burnout I am currently experiencing. His anxiety and stress were also way too high for way too long. That’s when he decided to make a change. In addition to his recommendation of a cold plunge, sauna, and meditation, he recommended Using Deliberate Cold Exposure for Health and Performance, The Science & Health Benefits of Deliberate Heat Exposure, and Burnout as podcasts to check out. All three of these helped to reframe my current levels of stress and work anxiety, giving me tools I can use.
