A key point to bear in mind. You’re better off not giving the small things more time than they deserve. – Marcus Aurelius

Tax credit transferability allows businesses to transfer all or a portion of any of 11 clean energy tax credits to a third party in exchange for tax-free cash.
Businesses transfer tax credits to take advantage of tax incentives if they do not have sufficient tax liability to utilize the tax credits themselves.
Imagine you have a coupon for a free pizza, but you’re allergic to cheese.
The clean energy tax credit is like that pizza coupon.
If you can’t use the coupon yourself (because you don’t owe enough taxes), you can transfer or sell that coupon to someone else who can use it to get the free pizza.
Transferability allows the value of the tax credit to still be utilized, even if the original recipient can’t directly benefit from it.
Companies that develop clean energy projects earn tax credits, but some smaller companies may not have enough tax burden to claim the full value of the tax credit.
