Quote I’m Re-Reading
If you wish to improve, be content to appear clueless or stupid in extraneous matters – don’t wish to seem knowledgeable. And if some regard you as important, distrust yourself. – Epictetus
Article I Read
The Acceleration of Addictiveness by Paul Graham is an essay that’s in line with other insightful essays he’s written that I’ve read. One of my favorite quotes from this essay is “I used to think running was a better form of exercise than hiking because it took less time. Now the slowness of hiking seems an advantage, because the longer I spend on the trail, the longer I have to think without interruption.”
Book I Read
Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All the Way by Ryan White is an autobiography of one of my favorite musicians. The book covers Buffett’s beginnings in Mobile Alabama (we went to the same high school) from his rise through the music ranks with his Coral Reefer Band to eventually becoming a massive tropical and lifestyle brand. His musical career took him from New Orleans, Nashville, Key West, and eventually around the world. Through this journey and struggle, he built a huge following of loyal fans. This allowed him to create the Margaritaville brand which encompasses restaurants, merchandise, resorts, and all kinds of products. It’s hard not to appreciate how hard Buffett worked to create songs that told a powerful story in each song that fans (Parrott Heads) could relate to. He was able to build a loyal following by being true to himself. Buffett was also great at putting on the persona of a laid-back, carefree guy who in reality was relentless in his pursuit to become great. What a fantastic book!
Blog Post I Wrote
I’m putting the finishing touches on booking a golf trip with some friends. In doing so, it reminded me I’ve yet to recap the Pinehurst golf trip I went on last year. Pinehurst Resort Golf Courses: Pinehurst No. 2, No. 4, The Cradle Review recaps the two rounds and one short course we played last June. Pinehurst is such a magical place that every golfer will love. I can’t wait to go back!
