Google CEO Sundar Pichai on AI-powered search and the future of the web dives deep into all things AI from the head of Google. I’m fascinated by all of the AI use cases but am not naive to think there aren’t very real consequences if AI isn’t deployed properly. Pichai’s comment on creators and artists “There is a deep tension between the vision Google has for the future and the very real fears and anxieties creators and website owners are feeling right now about how search has changed and how AI might swallow the internet forever.” is telling on how he and Google think about the AI ecosystem.
Film of the Week
Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can is loaded with A-list actors. The plot centers around “Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) who worked as a doctor, a lawyer, and a co-pilot for a major airline — all before his 18th birthday.” Abagnale was the master of deception and a forger who “At the age of 17, became the most successful bank robber in the history of the U.S.” Abagnale’s exploits eventually get the attention of the FBI where “FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of him.” Catch Me If You Can is brilliant, loaded with heavy-hitter actors, has a fascinating plot, and is hilarious.
Podcasts of the Week
Founders by David Senra is a podcast I listen to regularly as I’ve found there are timeless lessons in every episode. Senra helps you “learn from history’s greatest entrepreneurs” by reading a “biogeography of an entrepreneur and finding ideas you can use in your work.” Recent episodes I enjoyed include The Founder of Rolex: Hans Wilsdorf, How Steve Jobs Kept Things Simple, Michael Jordan In His Own Words, The Financial Genius Behind A Century of Scandals: Ivar Kreuger, Tom Murphy (Buffett’s Favorite Manager), Anna Wintour, Larry Gagosian (Billionaire Art Dealer), and The Making of Winston Churchill Part 2.
