Hi All,

Below is your weekly dose of a list of things I’m reading, watching, listening to, or thinking about from my No. 232 June 6, 2024 newsletter. If this message was forwarded to you, sign up for this newsletter using this link.

Quote I’m Re-Reading

I’m constantly amazed by how easily we love ourselves above all others, yet we put more stock in the opinion of others than our own estimation of self. How much credence we give to the opinions our peers have of us and how little to our very own. – Marcus Aurelius

Video I Watched

My wife Ashlee put me on a new-to-me podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. Dax is hilarious. What I appreciate most about this podcast is the relaxed nature of Shepard’s interviews. Some of my favorite episodes include Sebastian ManiscalcoMaya RudolphBradley CooperJason BatemanJohn Hamm, and Jon Batiste.

Film I Watched

Quantum of Solace may be the weakest of the Daniel Craig Bond films but it’s still a Bond film so I’ll watch it. The film is the sequel to Casino Royale, which I loved. In the movie, “Bond teams with Camille Montes (Kurylenko) to stop Dominic Greene (Amalric) from staging a coup d’état in Bolivia to access the country’s natural reserves.”

Book I Read

The Hard Thing About Hard Things: Building a Business When There Are No Easy Answers by Ben Horowitz is a book that’s been on my radar but I haven’t read it for whatever reason. What a mistake. This book is great. Horowitz is a cofounder of venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz and an experienced entrepreneur, who offers readers fundamental advice on building a startup. Anything you want to know about building a business is in this book. I appreciate Horowitz’s honesty about how difficult it is to run a business. This book gives it to you straight whether it’s how to fire friends, hire executives, or when to sell your business.
