Who doesn’t love a travel bucket list? I know that I do! Every year, I keep a running list of places to visit. These places come from blog posts, podcasts, recommendations, you name it. At the end of each year, I then compile that list to see which cities made multiple appearances on the list.
For this year’s travel bucket list, the cities were primarily focused in Europe. Also included are cities in Africa, Asia, Australia, and North America. With that said, let’s see which cities made the list and why they seem interesting.
The Best Credit Cards to Use for your 2020 Travel Bucket List
The American Express Gold, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Citi ThankYou Premier are the 3 personal credit cards to use when visiting cities on your travel bucket list. Use the Amex Gold to earn 4X on dining, the Chase Sapphire to earn 3X on dining and travel, and the Citi Premier to earn 3X on gas and travel.
Other cards to consider include the American Express Platinum, American Express Green Card, Citi Double Cash, and Citi Prestige. The Amex Platinum earns 5X on airfare, the Amex Green earns 3X on dining and travel, the Double Cash earns 2X on all purchases, and Citi Prestige earns 5X on airfare and dining.
Business owners should look into the American Express Blue Business Plus and Chase Ink Business Preferred. The Amex Blue Business earns 2X on all transactions. You’ll earn 3X on travel with the Ink Business Preferred.
Budapest, Hungary
The capital of Hungary along the River Danube is known for its museums and thermal baths. And if you read this Budapest city guide from God Save the Points, you’ll see that it’s also a city to eat fine dining at affordable prices. That works for me!
Cinque Terre, Italy
Colorful houses along the Italian coastline is what comes to mind when you think of Cinque Terre. High quality seafood, hiking trails, and beaches are also what you’ll find in this picturesque piece of Italy.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Game of Thrones has made this city in Croatia even more popular that it already was. When you arrive in Dubrovnik, you’ll be inundated by a number of museums, restaurants, beaches overlooking clear water, and bars.
Kruger National Park, South Africa
One Mile At A Time was Review: Singita Lebombo Lodge Kruger Park got me interested in visiting this part of Africa. I’ve also had close friends safari and they also raved about the experience.
Madrid, Spain
The capital of Spain has parks, art, markets, bars, and Real Madrid. Madrid also has incredible food to try that you can read about in this Madrid Travel Guide by God Save the Points.
Mexico City, Mexico
Richard Kerr was the first person to tip me off to this North American city. With it being so close to the US, it’s a surprise it doesn’t get much attention. In addition of there being plenty of sites to see, the food scene in Mexico City is top notch as you’ll find out in this Chef’s Table episode.
Prague, Czech Republic
The Prague Travel Tips put the capital of the Czech Republic on my radar. Affordable beer and underrated wine along with easy access to the rest of Europe make this an interesting city to check out.
Queenstown, New Zealand
The adventure capital of New Zealand is yet another city God Save the Points clue me in on. His Queenstown Things to Do post confirms how much there is check out in this city.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Chris Burkhard, a world-class photographer, was one of the first ones to show me what this country looks like. It’s so beautiful. One Mile At A Time also had an Iceland blog post that peaked my interest even more.
Santorini, Greece
It’s hard to not want to travel to this part of Greece after you reading this God Save the Points Santorini Travel Guide. I figured this country should be on my list and the Santorini blog post only confirmed it.
Vienna, Austria
Cafes and restaurants along with museums and palaces are what Vienna has to offer. There’s a Vienna First Timer’s Guide by God Save the Points that I plan to use when I visit.
Tokyo, Japan
The capital of Japan is a city that I regularly hear on a travel bucket list. Temples, public gardens, museums, izakayas (pubs), fish market, food scene, and fashion is what Tokyo has to offer.
