Dating back to 1778, The Greenbrier Resort is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, properties I’ve stayed at. The resort is located on 11,000 wooded acres in southwest West Virginia. This location makes it relatively easy to get to from the east coast.
In this review, I cover The Greenbrier resort, how to book The Greenbrier hotel, golf courses on property, best things to do at the resort, and common questions about the resort.

How to Book The Greenbrier Hotel
Unfortunately, this resort is not a points hotel. There’s also no way to use a preferential rate, like Hyatt Privé. So your best bet is to book the resort during off-peak travel dates to keep your hotel rates low. Currently, you can book standard hotel rooms like The Greenbrier Gable room, Estate Homes, and Legacy Cottages.
I paid $279-$399 per night plus an $8.37-$11.97 Occupancy Tax, an $18.14-$25.94 Historical Preservation Fund fee, $17.83-$25.50 in Sales Tax, and a $39 daily resort fee. In total, the all-in cash rate averaged $452 per night when taking into account the taxes and fees.
Golf Courses at The Greenbrier
The property has been host to world-class golf for more than 100 years. Currently, Greenbrier golf includes three resort courses, a private course, and a nine-hole par-three course.
The Old White hosts a PGA every year and is the course golf fans will likely recognize. The Greenbrier hosted both The Ryder Cup and The Solheim Cup and is the nine-hole course. One of my favorite courses on the property is The Meadows. Another nine-hole course is The Ashford Short Course. In short, golfers will be in heaven with access to this many high-quality courses in one location.
Best Things to do at The Greenbrier
Once you’re on property, the resort has everything you need. For the more active traveler, there are five golf courses, tennis courts, horseback riding, bike riding, an aerial adventure course, fishing, a fitness center, skeet shooting, ice skating, exploration of the mountain in a Jeep Rubicon, archery, tomahawk throwing, and pickleball.
In addition, the resort has 19 restaurants and lounges, a spa, a casino, croquet, bowling, an arcade, carriage rides, falconry, and an indoor pool. As you can see, there’s plenty to do once you arrive on site.
