A city known for hospitality, there’s an endless supply of New Orleans hotels that you can book. In particular, there are plenty of points hotels, including ones offered by IHG. One such hotel is the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot. A newer property on the scene, the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot underwent a recent renovation bringing the hotel up to par with its competitors.

Travelers have many choices when it comes to New Orleans hotels. Properties like the Eliza Jane Hotel come to mind as ones to recommend. However, my recent stay at the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot has this hotel on my shortlist. The hotel is stylish, the customer service couldn’t have been better, the location is ideal, and the food/drink scene is what you’d expect from a boutique hotel. With that context, it’s time to dive into everything you need to know about this hotel.

Best Credit Cards to Book Kimpton Hotel Fontenot

IHG has one co-branded credit card in the IHG Premier Card. Cardmembers earn 25x points at IHG and 2x points at gas stations, grocery stores, and restaurants. The card comes with an Anniversary Night that can be redeemed at a property requiring up to 40,000 points per night. Cardmembers also receive Platinum Elite status and are not charged foreign transaction fees.

IHG is a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner. So, this means you can transfer Chase points to IHG to book an award stay. Generally speaking, this is not a good use of Chase’s points because Chase’s other transfer partners offer higher value. However, if you need IHG points and have Chase points, you can leverage your Chase points to book an IHG hotel stay.

When IHG acquired Kimpton, hotels like the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot were brought into the fold. Meaning you can now use IHG points to book Kimpton properties. This hotel ranges from 38,000-47,000 IHG points per night, based on random dates throughout the year. Cash rates range from $293-$338 giving you 1.1-1.6 cents per point in value.

Ashlee’s partnership with the hotel came with a compted room. However, there’s no question this is a hotel we’d redeem points to book a stay. Especially considering you can receive more than 1 cent per point in value. Generally speaking, IHG points are worth less than 0.5 cents per point.

One of the things to love about this hotel is the amenities. Gospel Coffee + Boozy Treats (coffee shop), Peacock Room (on-property restaurant), Evening Wine Hour, Fitness Center, Morning Coffee + Tea Service, and Complimentary Bikes come with your stay.

We enjoyed breakfast at Gospel Coffee, and drinks and dinner at the Peacock Room. Evening Wine Hour is unique to Kimpton and something we appreciated during this stay and at the Kimpton Nine Zero Hotel in Boston. It’s the little things like Evening Wine Hour that set hotel brands like Kimpton apart from the rest.

Luxurious design in a boutique hotel setting is what you’re getting with your Kimpton Hotel Fontenot stay. The hotel has 202 guest rooms and suites that are highlighted by French-inspired detailing. Suite options include the One-Bedroom Suite, One-Bedroom Spa Suite, and Presidential Suite & Parlor. Guest Rooms that you can book include Essential King, Essential Queen, Signature King, Signature Queen, and Premium King.

Ashlee partnered with the hotel that provided us with a Bedroom Suite. The room is listed as approximately 561 sq ft., which was plenty of room for Ashlee, myself, and our son. The first room had an office and a living room with a tv and window overlooking downtown. The second room had a king bed with a bathroom that had a walk-in shower. The room aesthetic and furnishings were on point and what you’d expect to see in a boutique hotel.

What is the Kimpton Hotel Fontenot Highlights?

Gospel Coffee + Boozy Treats and the Peacock Room are the showstoppers of the hotel. In terms of hotel coffee shops, Gospel Coffee is one of the best coffee shops I’ve experienced in a hotel. Of the hotels we’ve stayed in that had coffee shops, Gospel Coffee doesn’t feel like a hotel coffee shop. It’s more in line with a local coffee shop you’d find when you’re out and about.

Concerning the Peacock Room, this restaurant and bar combo is similar to Gospel Coffee in that it’s not a typical hotel restaurant and bar. First off, the Peacock Room bar is one to visit alone. The bar’s array of cocktails and spirits is second to none. This bar has the feel of a nice cocktail bar you’d seek out when you’re out in New Orleans. For the restaurant, the combination of the food and atmosphere is fantastic for a hotel restaurant.

For breakfast, Gospel Coffee has coffee, tea, espresso drinks, coffee, pastries, frozen custards, and breakfast tacos. For lunch and dinner, the Peacock Room offers cocktails, small plates, entrees, and dessert. The cuisine is worldwide with Asian, French, American, Italian, and Indian dishes.

Our dinner started with El Pavo Real, a beautifully crafted light red mezcal cocktail. Next, we enjoyed the Peacock Snack Mix (also available in our room), Blue Crab Pimento Cheese, and Chickpea Caponata. For entrees, we ordered Chicken & Eggplant Fricassee and Fruits de Mer Pho. To close things out, our dessert called for Twice Baked Bread Pudding. All in all, our meal was delicious and we can’t wait to try out more items on the menu!

Kimpton Hotel Fontenot Conclusion

Thanks again to Kimpton Hotel Fontenot for hosting our family. This experience matched our Kimpton Nine Zero Hotel experience in Boston. In other words, we had a fantastic stay. While our room was compted, this hotel is one I’d recommend booking due to its location, hotel aesthetic, food and drink options, amenities, and customer service. Overall, the Kimpton brand is moving up for me in terms of desirable hotels to book for our future travel.
