International Air Transport Association COVID-19 Travel Regulations Map

The International Air Transport Association has a stated mission to represent, lead, and serve the airline industry. With its travel tool to help you plan to travel in the COVID-19 era, I couldn’t agree more.

Before diving into this post, check out this post and this post for more info about the tool. It shows how powerful this IATA tool is and why you should consider using it.

Best Credit Cards for International Travel

Foreign transaction fees eat into the value of the points that you earn during your international travel. As a result, you want to bring cards that have no foreign transaction fees on your trips.

The Amex Platinum Card, Amex Gold Card, Amex Green Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve, and Chase Sapphire Preferred are ones to consider bringing with you when traveling internationally. All of these cards do not have foreign transaction fees.

International Air Transport Association Tool

International Air Transport Association’s tool is called a COVID-19 Travel Regulations Map. Simply head to this link and click on your country of choice. You will then see a country guide on the right side of your screen. This shows you the current regulations for said country.

By way of example, I planned to visit Hungary in August 2020 so I selected Hungary to use as an example. Travelers cannot enter Hungary unless you meet one of the following requirements:

  • you’re a Hungarian national or you’re a family member of a Hungarian national
  • you’re arriving from Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China (People’s Rep.), Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Japan, Korea (Rep.), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Fed., San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, United Kingdom or Vatican City (Holy See
  • you have a permanent residence permit issued by Hungary or are a family member of the person with the permanent resident permit
  • you have a signed and stamped letter issued by the Deputy-Chief Officer of the National Police

Passengers who do not meet the qualifications above may enter, however, a 14-day quarantine applies if you’re:

  • not a Hungarian national or a family member of a Hungarian national
  • a passenger arriving from Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland (Rep.), Italy, Korea (Rep.), Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland or Vatican City (Holy See)
  • a passenger with 2 separate medical certificates with a negative Coronavirus (COVID-19) PCR test result issued at most 5 days before arrival
