Chase isn’t playing around anymore. Chase Sapphire Preferred cardmembers now earn 3x points on Instacart purchases on up to $3,000 between July 1, 2020, and September 30, 2020. For reference, Chase Sapphire Reserve cardmembers earn 5x points in this category during the same time frame.

3x Points at Gas Stations
Road trips are becoming the theme, at least according to my Instagram feed! It seems as though everyone has rented an RV of some sort and is heading out west. Who knows, I may come to join them!
In order to capitalize on road trips, the Chase Sapphire Preferred earns 3x points at gas stations on up to $1,500 in spending from July 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020. It’s important to note that one of the best cards to use at gas stations is the Citi Premier where you also earn 3x points at gas stations.
5x points on Streaming
If anyone’s streaming minutes have decreased during the pandemic, I’d like to see it. Mine certainly have not but I’m trying to at least learn something most nights ;).
At any rate, Chase Sapphire Preferred cardmembers earn 5x points on select streaming services on up to $1,500 in spending from July 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020. You want to check the terms and conditions to confirm your favorite streaming service qualifies.
Common Questions about the Chase Sapphire Preferred Benefits
How much do you have to spend to make Chase Sapphire Preferred worth it?
Generally speaking, you need to spend $7,125 in 2x bonus categories to break even on the $95 annual fee. The math is as follows: $95 annual fee times 100 (cents per dollar) = 9,500 cents times 1.5 cents per point = 14,250 points divided 2x bonus points = $7,125 every year in 2x points category spending.
Does Chase Sapphire Preferred have lounge access?
Although it would be nice, you do not receive lounge access with the Chase Sapphire Preferred. However, you do receive lounge access with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Should I get the Chase Sapphire Preferred?
If you are starting out in award travel, you should consider applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. The Ultimate Rewards points that you earn allow to book award flights and hotel stays with the program’s partners.
