Fiction and general non-fiction were the two themes from the books on Amazon that I read in March. I continued the spy novel train with The Kill Artist and can’t wait to read the next book in the series The English Assassin. The other book I read was Pappyland: A Story of Family, Fine Bourbon, and the Things That Last. The author’s other book The Cost of These Dreams: Sports Stories and Other Serious Business is also one I’m eyeing.
In terms of which one of these books I enjoyed more, it’s a toss-up. The Kill Artist may be the best spy novel I’ve read this year edging out I Am Pilgrim: A Thriller. Wright Thompson is one of my favorite sports writers and I love bourbon so I thoroughly enjoyed Pappyland: A Story of Family, Fine Bourbon, and the Things That Last.

Pappy Van Vinkle may be the most famous and hard-to-find bourbon in the world due to its cult following. Pappyland: A Story of Family, Fine Bourbon, and the Things That Last is the story of how the grandson of the founder, Julian Van Winkle III, preserved his grandfather and father’s bourbon legacy. While other bourbon manufacturers sold out and skimped on quality, Van Winkle stayed true to his family’s history. Author Wright Thompson makes you feel as though you there with the Van Winkle’s as they fought for many years to keep the family business afloat.
