American Express continues to find ways to engage its customers and this time it’s with the AmEx Platinum temporary monthly PayPal credit. This credit is in addition to the airline fee credit, Uber credits, Saks credit, and Amex travel credit (offered to some cardmembers).
In 2020, AmEx offered a temporary monthly credit for up to $40 in cell phone and streaming purchases. Separately, the AmEx Platinum 100k bonus points offer is available to new cardmembers. All in all, AmEx is making sure the AmEx Platinum benefits make its customers want to keep this card in their wallets.
AmEx Platinum PayPal Credit
The PayPal Frequently Asked Questions outlines the details of this offer. At a high level, AmEx Platinum cardmembers receive a $30 monthly PayPal credit beginning January 1, 2021, through June 30, 2021. This means the PayPayl credit has up to $180 in value. In other words, this $180 credit helps to reduce the Amex Platinum annual fee of $595.
Card enrollment is not required through American Express. Cardmembers need to add your AmEx Platinum card to your PayPal account and select your card when you checkout with PayPal.

PayPal’s FAQs go into detail on this offer. Overall, here’s a list of some of the most important terms listed in the FAQs, and terms and conditions:
- American Express Basic U.S. Consumer Platinum Card Members are eligible to receive these statement credits.
- Eligible Platinum Card Members will begin earning monthly statement credits for eligible PayPal purchases beginning January 1, 2021, through June 30, 2021.
- You will only receive a statement credit for each eligible charge on your account up to the maximum amount of $30 per month.
- All transactions must be made in USD at U.S. merchants with a U.S. PayPal account.
- Person to Person payments are not eligible for statement credits. This includes payments made to friends and family or directly to merchants for goods and services via the PayPal app.
- Eligible purchases do not include fees or interest charges, purchases or reloading of prepaid cards, purchases of gift cards, person-to-person payments including those for goods and services, or purchases of other cash equivalents.
