August Book List: Top 2 Best Books to Read While Traveling

For my August best books to read while traveling list, I continued with the topic of personal finance. This was the 5th consecutive month on the topic that I started back in my April book list. For those of you looking for personal finance books I’ve read this year, you’ll find book reviews in my May book list, June book list, and July book list.

To start the year, the topic I focused on in my January book list, February book list, and March book list was negotiation. I read a number of helpful books on this topic that are covered in each of my monthly book reviews. Head to the January, February, and March lists if you’re in need of negotiation books.

Best Credit Cards to Use to Purchase Books

Earning transferable points is what allows Ashlee and I to travel as much as we do. Transferable points are earned in 5 programs: American Express, Capital One, Chase, Citi, and Marriott. The points earned in these programs can be transferred directly to their hotel and airline partners to book hotel rooms and award flights.

When I’m purchasing books, the Chase Freedom Unlimited is my go-to personal credit card. If you’re a new cardmember, I’d argue this is THE card you should use as it earns 3% cash back in the first cardmember. You can supercharge this card by pairing with the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Preferred. The Reserve and Preferred allow you to convert Freedom Unlimited cash back into Chase points that can be redeemed for travel.

On the business credit card side look no further than the American Express Blue Business Plus (Learn More Here). This no frills card earns 2X points per transaction. You could also apply for the Chase Ink Business Preferred and pair that card with the Chase Freedom Unlimited. The cash back from the Freedom Unlimited can be converted into Chase points if you have the Ink Business Preferred.

MONEY Master the Game

Money Master the Game was the second Tony Robbins book that I’ve read. The first one that I read was Unshakeable. In Money Master the Game, Robbins gives readers a 7-step plan on how to achieve financial independence. He does this by tapping the wisdom of famous investors around the world. Investors like Warren Buffett, David Swensen, and Ray Dalio.

The recommended portfolio allocations and interviews with these investors are what I found most helpful about Money Master the Game. Reading what Ray Dalio and David Swensen recommend in terms of how to allocate your personal investment portfolio was powerful. I Will Teach You to be Rich Second Edition also has these allocations that I like.

I could have done without Section 7 that made up the last 60 pages or so. This part of the book reminded me of the the last 40 pages of Robbins’ other book Unshakeable. To me, it would have been more helpful had these pages stuck to the topic of personal finance.

Think and Grow Rich

Dr. Arthur R. Pell walks readers through an updated version originally written by Napoleon Hill. In Think and Growth Rich, you’ll learn the principles that business magnates like Andrew Carnegie and Henry Ford used to create wealth. There’s also principles to learn from the current batch of industry titans like Bill Gates.

Any book where I can learn principles from successful people is of interest to me. Think and Grow Rich shows you what the Carnegie’s of the world did to achieve their success.

Think and Grow Rich came up short in that it’s not an actionable personal finance book. Money Master the Game and I Will Teach You to be Rich are 2 of the best personal finance books that are actionable.
