I had a busy 31 days for my October travel schedule. I went on a golf trip, my second travel conference, and with my fiancé Ashlee to the Caribbean.

In this post, I’ll cover how I booked my flights and what we did on each trip.

Golf Trip

Mississippi is home to 3 of the top 100 public golf courses in the U.S. Image courtesy of Points With Q

My dad and I have been wanting to put a golf trip together for a couple of years and we finally knocked it out this year.

He and I are both avid golfers and have never been on a trip with just the two of us. As you might imagine, several days of nothing but golf was the trip of a lifetime.

The golf trip was in Mississippi so I used Southwest miles to fly round-trip from Washington (DCA) to New Orleans (MSY).

We played Fallen Oak, Old Waverly, Mossy Oak, and Dancing Rabbit. Outside of Mossy Oak, all of the courses are in the top 100 public golf courses in the U.S. and ones I’d recommend playing.

If you’re a golfer and have golf trip recommendations, I’d love to hear them!

Chicago Seminar Series

Richard Kerr of Award Travel 101 tipped me off to this conference and I’m so glad I attended.

The conference is everything points, miles and award travel. If that sounds remotely interesting, I highly suggest you attend to learn from the best in the industry.

The quality of speakers and attendees is top-notch, and I came away with so much valuable information. It’s ideal for anyone just starting out to those who’ve been in the game a long time.

I used Southwest miles booking a round-trip flight from Washington (DCA) to Midway (MDW). Huge mistake! I’m an idiot and didn’t realize how much closer the conference is to O’Hare (ORD).

I’ll be back next year and will be flying into O’Hare!

Turks and Caicos

Ashlee has a lifestyle and travel blog and was able to hook us up with this trip.

A PR company she works with put a sponsored Turks and Caicos trip together that only required us to cover our flights and food.

We’ve never been to Turks and love the Caribbean so this trip was right up our alley.

The trip was booked with cash on JetBlue and after flying the airline, we now see why people rave about the JetBlue. We loved it – free wifi, plenty of space, excellent customer service!

We flew into Providenciales (PLS) from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) via Washington (DCA). Grace Bay, the area we stayed, has everything you’re looking for – crystal blue water, white sand, delicious food, tasty snacks, you name it!

Turks isn’t the cheapest Caribbean island because it’s a developed island with grocery stores, quality restaurants, and high end resorts.

It was the type of trip we were looking for that allowed us to work in the morning, read on the beach during the day, and enjoy delicious food. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

Conclusion

We enjoyed the Turks and Caicos as part of our October travel list. The island is easy to get to with plenty of restaurants and beautiful beaches.

This post is part of a new series I’m working on so please let me know if you want to see more posts like it in the comments or by sending me an email pointswithq@gmail.com.
